Top reel packaging machines are ideal for packing single products with regular shape or easy to place on the infeed belt. They are also very suitable for packaging products in trays or trays.

Welding on the bottom of the product

This type of flow pack packaging machine carries out a sealing at the top and at the end of the package thanks to the transversal sealer and a longitudinal seal under the product along the entire length. The result obtained is the typical flow pack that we are used to seeing in brioches.

Former tunnel

The forming tunnel is an element that shapes the film to allow the product to be wrapped without slowing down the packaging flow.
The fixed tunnel is particularly suitable for products with irregular shapes, such as products placed on cardboard or napkins.
The quality of the packaging is higher than the variable tunnel but it is limiting in the variety of products that can be packaged: this because for each product a tailor-made tunnel will have to be built with a relative increase in the costs of the packaging machine.

Scissor and translating sealer

The other large family of sealers is that of scissor sealers, some also called translating, which perform a hermetic seal and are therefore designed for packages that require Modified Atmosphere (MAP).
In this case, the two jaws close and couple with each other moving vertically, exactly as happens in a press or vice. This movement allows to define a constant welding pressure for as long as necessary.
This type of sealer does not allow high packaging speeds, generally they never exceed 40 pieces per minute (ppm) unless the sealing bar is equipped with a translating movement (box motion) which allows to speed up the waiting time for arrival. of the products by physically moving the entire sealing unit towards the product and back. In this case, the packaging speeds are able to rise up to about 60 ppm, bringing the translating flow pack to a speed similar to that of a rotary press.

MAP

The Modified Atmosphere Packaging (MAP) is the process by which an inert gas, generally nitrogen, is inserted inside the package, replacing the presence of oxygen. By doing so, the food product inside the flow pack bag will have a longer shelf life and consequently can be stored more easily for a longer period of time.
To pack in MAP it is necessary that the packaging machine is translating or rotary with Long Dwell sealer and that it has the predisposition for the connection of the gas cylinders and the gas injection system.
The flow pack packaging machine can be set up for packaging in MAP through a normal flow meter or through a Dan Sensor system with mixer and analyzer. The Dan Sensor system complete with mixer and analyzer allows to have a constant control over the amount of gas in relation to the oxygen that is present in each package, guaranteeing precision and safety that otherwise cannot be obtained. However, this system is mounted only on high quality and high cost packaging machines because it is a particularly expensive system.
